Remembering Rachel on the Road to a Grammy
Rachel Bissex, a celebrated
singer-songwriter who died of breast cancer in February 2005, continues to be
honored by the music world. A two-disc CD set featuring some of the very finest
folk musicians in the nation covering RachelÕs songs was recorded and released
just months after her passing. It is simply titled Remembering Rachel: Songs
of Rachel Bissex and is a brilliant
and true celebration of a life devoted to music and its meaning. The recording
was recently entered into the Grammy process for consideration as the
ÔContemporary Folk Album of the YearÕ. Artists on the recording include: Dar
Williams, Patty Larkin, Diane Zeigler, Greg Greenway, Tracy Grammer, Ruthie
Foster, Sloan Wainwright, Jennifer Kimball, Catie Curtis, Emma & Stephen
Goldberg and Daniel Bissex, among many others.
The project was originally
created, and continues as a fundraising effort to fulfill RachelÕs final wish
that her childrenÕs college education be supported. However, sales and
exceptional reviews have made it very clear that this longtime loved and
respected folk icon has left a musical legacy of great importance. It is the
hope of family, friends and musical associates, that the Academy of Recording
Arts and Sciences will recognize and honor Rachel Bissex, her stellar
musicianship and beautiful spirit with a nomination and Grammy Award for Remembering
Rachel: Songs of Rachel Bissex.
